  • IE TCD MS 489 is a chronicle of the history of England to the deposing of Henry VI at the battle of St. Albans in 1455, apparently collected from Higden by an author more ancient than Trevisa. Includes inscription names as follows:-- p. 5: copy of letter from Jhon Sponane at Dublin 23 November 1575 to Cosin Jhon Karye at Ballshover;-- p. 9: Mr Jan Barlow;-- p. 25: McMoryshe fitz Thomas of Wexford knight and earl of Ormonde;-- p. 67: John Barlow;-- p. 68: Mr Patrick Browne merchant, New Gate Dublin and Mr Christopher Faganne, alderman of Dublin;-- p. 124: William Nagle, Jhon Barlow, James Hollywood;-- p. 214: John Blassett, Robert ffrynf;-- p. 216; John Barlow ?1579. There are many illustrated initials (one unfinished on p. 112) mostly of human figures, often with swords. Reminiscent of 16th-century playing cards.
