- Resumen
- IE TCD MS 11114 is a contemporary transcript (the 'lost' Cobbe transcript) formerly in the possession of Dr. Charles Cobbe, Archbishop of Dublin, of 'The Family Swift', seemingly in the hand of the Rev. Dr. John Lyon, 1708-1790. With envelope. This is an autobiographical fragment in which Rev. Dr. Jonathan Swift, Dean of St. Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin, gives a brief history of his forebears and an account of the events and activities of his first thirty-two years. The original was written by Swift circa 1727-9, this transcript perhaps circa April 1738 when Dr. Lyon was helping Swift with research on his grandfather. The annotation may date from this period as well, or perhaps circa 1742-45 when Lyon was living at the Deanery as Swift's guardian and looking after his library and papers, or even a decade later when he was adding marginalia to a copy of Hawkesworth's Life of Swift.
