- Abstract
- IE TCD MS 877 is a collection of verse, with some prose pieces, a Latin elegiac poem by R. Aton, and Latin epigrams; 2 parts in 1. In the first section are poems by John Donne (those in the London edition of 1669 pp. 1-364), R. Corbet, Francis Beaumont, and anonymous others. In the second section are other poems attributed to Viscount St. Albans, e.g. 'Life's a bubble and the life of man lest than a spann'; 'Ignoto' (published in Reliquiae Wottonianae 1651, p 358); James I, on the death of Queen Anne; Sir H. Wotton, Cecil Turner, W. Browne, George Herbert, Lord Herbert, Humphrey Hide, and others. Many attributions differ from those in the published works. Folios 136r-140v have a poem beginning 'Each woman is a Brief of woman kind'. Only two of the poems ascribed to Richard Corbett are thought to be genuine. Page 406 has 'Goe soule the bodies quest' but no attribution; it is usually attributed to Sir Walter Raleigh. https://manuscripts.catalogue.tcd.ie/CalmView/Record.aspx?src=CalmView.Catalog&id=IE+TCD+MS+877&pos=1
