Abstract
  • IE TCD MS 4410, John Millington Synge's literary commonplace book. This is a notebook, previously numbered 47, in which Synge entered drafts of 'Deirdre' (fols 1r-29v), all of Act II, with the exception of three other short passages from Act III (fols 27r, 28v, 35r). There are also drafts of several poems: 'In Kerry' (fols 30v-31r), 'A Word On The Life-Force' (fol 33r), 'Dread' (fol 34r), 'End of the Book' (fol 34v), and some 'critical notes' used in the preface to the poems (fols 31v-32v, 33v). At the back is a Wicklow sketch (fols 37v, 38v), and some words and phrases (fol 36v). 38 folios in all.
