  • IE TCD MS 200: Canons beginning at canon 79- ; Councils’ canons; letters and commentaries (scholia). 12th century, first half. Extent: 161 folios.Materials: high quality parchment, of even thinness and ivory colour, as is more usual in Latin MSS; paper flyleaves of different paper and inserts of paper of different quality and sizes. Watermarks: front flyleaf, folio i has a design of cross with rounded arms over a pedestal (?) inscribed in an oval with double lines that are not perfectly parallel. Inserted folio 155a has a watermark in the gutter edge, the top of a lily.Number of hands: one hand. Script: see also IE TCD MS 199; a characteristic redoubling of the vertical stroke in kappa or eta, prolonged in the upper margin, is found e.g. folio 3r; inclusions also repeatedly of epsilon within rho; the scholia are in the hand of the scribe. Binding: A note in pencil on the front paste-down says ‘Rebacked May 1950’. Earlier portions of leather covers of light brown colour with a stamped pattern were re-used, similar to, but not identical with, those in MS 199. The spine is of a different stamped leather, divided into five sewing stations, with gold lettering saying ‘Canones Apostolorum et Graece’ and ‘B. 4. 18’. Description by Dr. Barbara Crostini.
