  • ‘A booke of maps of the estate of the Right Honourable the Earl of Mountrath in the Kingdom of Ireland taken anno domini 1730’. By Thomas Moland, a prominent land surveyor in Ireland during the early 18th century, for the 6th Earl of Mountrath in 1730, Algernon Coote (1869-1744). This bound volume comprises 14 maps on vellum, with descriptions on paper:- 1. Town of Mountrath, Queen’s Co.- 2. Sconce, Deer Park, Coole, Kilbrickane & Camclone.- 3. Rush Hall, Loran, Manning Ballytrasney and Palmers Hill.- 4. Several farms in par of Opherilan and Kile (folded).- 5. Rathcoffy, Rorymore, Rorybeg, Clonduffe, and Ballykillehine.- 6. Castle Cuffe.- 7. Jamestown, Co Leitrim.- 8. Estate in King’s County (Ballycowen etc, Ballyna, Cooledaragh).- 9. Various in the bar of Athlone, Co Roscommon.- 10. Various in the bar of Ballintubber, Co Roscommon.- 11. Various in the bar of Ballintubber, Co Roscommon.- 12. Various in the bar of Boyle, Co Roscommon.- 13. Various in the bar of Smal County, Co Limerick.- 14. Greenhills, Co Kildare. Also in this volume are inserted maps (loose):- Maps of Ballycowen, Ballensragh etc [Co. Offaly] [by] Hogan.- A map of the towne and parks of Mountrath in the Queens County surveyed ann 1735 by me Gar[e]tt Hogan.- Map of Jamestown, Co. Leitrim with plots numbered. Reference for this map is in the 1730 estate map volume, no 7.Accompanied by a postcard date stamped 5 October 1955 and addressed to Walter Armytage, Esq., Halston, Moyvore, Westmeath. On verso is typed an extract from Burke’s Perrage on Sir Charles Coote (c. 1610 -1661), 1st Earl of Mountrath.
