Cromwell: family and estate papers. Item 25

Abstract
  • No. 25, pages 105-108. 1650. Original? Memorandum from the Bishop of Down to Lord Ardglass. Cities indenture dated 20 Feb. 1639/1640 whereby the Earl of Ardglass granted to the Bishop a rent charge of £200 per annum for 8 years, viz. £95 p.a. payable by the mariment and £105 p.a. by John Echlin out of lands of the Inch. This ended at All Saints 1647. “Because I then could not enter into possession of all the eight town demised unto me, his lordship granted me another rent charge of £60.” Gives details of rent charges agranted to the Bishop by the Lord Ardglass from 1639/40, and of intrusion the Earl had made into these lands. He appeals to Ardglass to settle the matter privately and without going to court.
