- IE TCD MS 583 is a [15th century] copy of the so-called ‘Pembridge chronicle of Irish history, 1162-1347’, with an addition to 1370. Latin title: ‘Annales Pembrigii rerum Hibernicarum ab anno 1162 ad annum 1370’. In Latin, with some verses in Irish. Authorship: uncertain, but attributed to Christopher Pembridge. Script: single hand, using secretary with some anglicana forms and having an Irish flavour. Decoration: initials red or blue or green (initial on 1 is blue with red flourishes); certain initials flourished with droll head; spaces left for some initials remain blank. Ihc at top of 28v is framed with rough drawing of crown. There are rough drawings of monsters on folio 36 r-v. Watermarks: Unicorn. Dating note: M.L. Colker, 'Trinity College Dublin: Supplement One: Descriptive Catalogue of the Mediaeval and Renaissance Latin Manuscripts', (Dublin, 2008), p. 209, states 'R. Sharpe, 'A Handlist of the Latin Writers of Great Britain and Ireland before 1540', Publications of the Journal of Medieval Latin 1, (2001), 831 dates the manuscript as early 16th century, Sharpe, ibid., indicates that the text consists of extracts made by Philip Flattisbury from Bodl. Laud Misc. 526 (mid 15th century). On p. 436, Sharpe, ibid., claims that the Annals are by Philip Flattisbury and are attributed to Pembridge.
