  • IE TCD MS 11371/4 is a hardback commonplace book kept by Francis Longworth-Dames. This book is a continuation of IE TCD MS 11371/3. Manuscript note at front of book reads ‘Vol. IV From 1827 to 1829’. Folio vi is headed: ‘Facts fancies and recollections “fond trivial records from 1827 to 1829”’ and is dated: ‘Green hill, Edenderry, Kings County, Ireland, 1827.’ Longworth-Dames returns to Green Hills (Co. Offaly) in February 1827 after spending time in England with his mother and sisters. On 7 September he sets out again for a trip to the continent. He arrives in Dieppe (France) and travels through Paris, Lyons (France), Turin and Genoa (Italy). He arrives in Florence and stays 6 months before travelling on to Rome on 2 April 1828. On 3 September Longworth-Dames turns for home passing through Sorrento, Naples, Leghorn (Italy), Nice, Toulon, Marseilles, Lyons and Paris (France). He includes quotes, poems, prayers and discusses such topics as botany, religion, literature and music.With a bookplate (fol. vi): ‘Francis Longworth Dames, Virtute et Prudentia’.With inserted leaves detailing in typescript a list of [some] contents of the volume. 1827-1829; 1 volume.
