  • Image located in the collections of: RIA RR ; UCD SC ; NLI PD 2034 (TX) 19, Brocas Collection; plate not present in TCD EPB copy V.k.70.The charismatic Lord Edward Fitzgerald, (1763-1798), fifth son of the 1st Duke of Leinster, was a leading strategist in the Society of United Irishmen who had renounced his title of nobility in Paris in 1792. He was arrested on 19 May 1798 (see Plate 31), mortally wounded, and died on 4 June. The IM features a “Memoirs of the late LORD EDWARD FITZGERALD, with anecdotes of the Rebellion of 1798”.
