  • IE TCD MS 11371/5 is a hardback commonplace book kept by Francis Longworth-Dames. This book is a continuation of IE TCD MS 11371/4. Manuscript note at front of book reads ‘Vol. V From 1829 to..’ Folio vi is headed: ‘Facts fancies and recollections “fond trivial records from 1829 to 1863 - October 6th”’ and is dated: ‘Green hill, Edenderry, Kings County, Ireland, 1829.’ This journal covers Longworth-Dames’s life from the age of 39 in 1829 until his death on 6 October 1863. During these 34 years Longworth-Dames travels to England, France and around Ireland. All the major events in his life are noted; his marriage in 1830, the birth of his first three children, the death of his wife and daughter in 1835, his re-marriage aged 49 in 1839, the birth of three children from his second marriage, the death of his infant son in 1841, the marriage of his second son in 1860 and finally his own death on 6 October 1863. This event is noted in his son’s hand. With two bookplates (inside front cover and fol. vi): ‘Francis Longworth Dames, Virtute et Prudentia’.With inserted leaves of notepaper detailing in typescript a list of [some] contents of the volume.1829-6 October 1863 ; 1 volume.
