  • IE TCD MS 4394 is a notebook of John Millington Synge, previously numbered 31.This notebook, probably started in 1902, was used sporadically until 1905. At different times Synge entered a draft of Riders to the Sea (fols 1v-8v) and a verse keen, which may have been related (fols 9r, 10r); some dialogue for The Tinker's Wedding (fol l0v); a draft of The Well of the Saints 'Act III B' (fols 11v-13r), and some dialogue for The Playboy of the Western World - opening scene (fols 13v-l6v).There are 'studies' in the dialect of his plays initialled J.M.S. and in one case dated 4 May 1903 (fols 9v, 17r-19r).
