Abstract
  • The Google Book, written and illustrated by 'V.C.V.' (=Vincent Cartwright Vickers (1879-1939)). Contains colour engravings and humorous verses of and about numerous imaginary birds. The ‘Google’ itself is a fictitious beast that resides in a garden and roams the surrounding lands where the birds dwell. Opposite the half-title page is an edition statement: “This Edition is limited to One Hundred copies, signed by the artist and numbered, of which this is No. [blank]“. This limited edition was published in 1913 by J. & E. Bumpus, and was engraved and printed by Henry Stone & Son, Ltd., Banbury. A slimmed-down version of this edition was published in 1931 by the Medici Society, containing only 25 of the 34 colour prints that appear in this 1913 edition, and is also available to view in the Digital Collections repository here: https://doi.org/10.48495/sj139900t
