Abstract
  • Irish folk music collected by ‘Séamus Grdman’ (James Goodman, 1828-1896), dated 21 [October?] 1861. With an index in the front of the volume and continued in the back to the more than 400 tunes contained therein.Includes a note in typescript and manuscript:on the recto the note is addressed to the Registrar, Trinity College, Dublin from Godfrey Goodman, 21 Grove Road, Havant, Hants., dated 7 September 1944, where in the author sets out his lack of knowledge concerning the existence or whereabouts of the folk music albums passed down to his father, Dr. F.G. Goodman by James Goodman. He writes: ‘... but speaking as his [F.G. Goodman’s] Executor I am sure the family would wish the albums to be made available for the College authorities to deal with as they wish.’On the verso, in manuscript and dated 13 September 1944 is a note from [W Bailey]? to the Librarian:‘I think this should be accepted as full authority, and the albums made generally available in the Library. Don’t you think it would be a good thing for either you or me to write to ‘The Irish Press’ to say that the song albums are no longer sealed to the world?’
